Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber gave instructions to Cairo’s General Authority for Cleaning, Beautification, and Lighting to intensify environmental awareness campaigns in schools, highlighting the importance of planting trees and their role in improving quality of life and preserving the environment. This aligns with the governorate’s plan to expand green spaces and promote a culture of tree planting among younger generations. It also comes in line with President Abdel Fattah El‑Sisi’s initiative of “Greening Cairo.”
The authority has already launched an awareness program in schools aimed at raising students’ environmental awareness through lectures and sessions. Theses lectures and sessions will address the importance of trees and green spaces, their role in purifying air, improving climate, and reducing rising temperatures. It will also contribution to enhancing the civilized image of streets and residential areas.
The program’s activities are not limited to theory; they also include practical training for students on planting trees and plants, starting with selecting suitable locations and preparing soil, moving through planting and irrigation methods, and concluding with techniques for care, monitoring, and maintaining trees after planting.
Governor Saber stated that the governorate is keen to involve students in increasing green space efforts, thereby strengthening their sense of responsibility toward the environment and society. He added that teaching a student how to plant and care for a tree makes them more committed to preserving it and not harming plants.
Saber further urged to continue awareness campaigns in schools and expand practical activities, in parallel with expanding green space projects carried out by the governorate across various districts. He added that “Greening Cairo” is a shared responsibility requiring the collaborative efforts of executive bodies, civil society, and citizens, and that preserving trees and green spaces is no less important than expanding their planting.
