Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Supply and Internal Trade Minister Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk, and Head of Egypt’s Future Authority for Sustainable Development Dr. Bahaa El‑Din El‑Ghannam inaugurated a new branch of the largest state‑owned retail chain, “Carry On," at Deir El‑Malak. They also inaugurated 19 additional branches via video conference, including nine in Cairo: El‑Salam City, Masakan Sheraton, El‑Sahel in Shubra, El‑Matareya, Abbaseya, Heliopolis, Obour Market, and Sikket Rateb Street in Helmeya.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Cairo Governor Omar El‑Shafie, Dr. Alaa Nagi, Chairman of the Holding Company for Food Industries, Eng. Abdel Basset Abdel Naim, Director of the Supply Directorate, along with senior officials from the Cairo Governorate, the Ministry of Supply, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Holding Company for Food Industries.
During the inauguration, Governor Saber stated that Cairo seeks to follow the directives of President Abdel Fattah El‑Sisi to regulate markets, increase the supply of basic commodities, offer citizens goods at affordable prices, and expand sales outlets and markets. The governorate also strives to enhance private sector participation and reduce the number of intermediaries. He also urged intensifying field inspections to provide citizens with easy access to high-quality and affordable commodities and promote stability and order in the markets.
Saber added that the “Carry On” chain represents an advanced model for retail and food outlets, adopting advanced methods of management, display, and sales. It offers a wide variety of commodities and products. It also displays prices in an illegible way to promote transparency and help citizens choose what they need at competitive rates.
The governor further said that expanding these outlets is not limited to providing basic commodities but aims to deliver a comprehensive shopping experience through product diversity, improved display and storage methods, and the use of modern technology in sales management. This contributes to improving service performance and saving citizens’ time and effort.
Moreover, the governor said Cairo is planning to expand the establishment of more outlets and exhibitions across Cairo to regulate market prices, alongside mobile outlets to deliver basic commodities at affordable prices. He added that strict price oversight enforced at exhibitions.
The state‑owned retail chain is affiliated with the Holding Company for Food Industries under the Ministry of Supply, follows the directives of the political leadership by consistently offering high‑quality food products at reasonable prices.
The initiative also aims to restructure and promote national companies’ high- quality products at prices lower than market counterparts, while modernizing retail outlets to meet contemporary standards in product display and service. This includes enhancing outlet layout, improving management and pricing systems, applying digital transformation in transactions, converting traditional ration shops into modern supermarkets, upgrading outlets under the “Gam’aeity” project into hypermarkets, and modernizing several outlets of the Holding Company within the “Carry On” system.
