The first edition of the ENABLE program was launched at Al-Azhar’s Conference Hall in collaboration between Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and the British Council, with the aim of supporting the professional development of English language teachers and enhancing their ability to apply modern teaching practices. The program seeks to improve the quality of education and support student learning.
The program targets more than 150 trained English language teachers through a series of specialized training sessions focusing on four key areas selected based on teachers’ actual professional needs: integrating artificial intelligence into teaching and learning; assessment for learning; strengthening 21st-century skills; and inclusive practices and creating an inclusive, supportive classroom environment.
Training priorities were identified through a self-assessment tool sent to teachers before the program began. The tool was designed to accurately identify their professional needs and determine priority areas for development based on data and participants’ actual requirements. This reflects the program’s commitment to providing training that responds to teachers’ real-world needs and supports the application of newly acquired knowledge and skills in classrooms.
As part of the partnership between Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and the British Council, the ENABLE program also includes a new training track for 30 English language supervisors. The track focuses on developing leadership and mentoring skills and enhancing supervisors’ ability to support teachers’ professional development and lead efforts to improve teaching practices in schools.
The partnership reflects the two institutions’ shared commitment to developing the capabilities of educational professionals, expanding opportunities for continuous professional learning, and benefiting from modern educational practices and expertise in ways that meet the needs of both teachers and learners.
