Egyptian banks operating in the local market are launching financial inclusion activities as part of the Farmer’s Celebration, coinciding with Farmer’s Day. The campaign begins today, Tuesday, September 1, and will run for 15 days through September 15, 2026.
During this period, Egyptian banks will allow new customers to open all types of bank accounts free of charge and without a minimum balance requirement. Banks will also issue prepaid and debit cards to customers and encourage them to activate and use their cards for purchases. Customers using electronic wallets will likewise be encouraged to activate their wallets and use them for transactions.
As part of the financial inclusion activities marking the Farmer’s Celebration, Egyptian banks will organize a number of events and activities, including setting up service points outside their branches during the designated periods and promoting suitable banking products. Banks are required to inform the Banking Affairs Sector at the Central Bank of Egypt of the locations of these service points.
Free Banking Services Available During the Campaign
1- Free account opening for citizens, with no minimum balance requirement.
2- Issuance of prepaid cards.
3- Issuance of debit cards.
4- Issuance of the bank’s electronic wallet.
5- Internet and mobile banking services.
6- Financial education and awareness activities.
The Central Bank of Egypt has decided to increase the number of financial inclusion initiatives held annually in Egypt to six, taking place during March, April, August, September, October, and December.
The Central Bank has set the proposed dates for these financial inclusion initiatives as follows:
-Women’s Celebration: March 8–31, coinciding with International Women’s Day.
- Arab Financial Inclusion Day: April 1–30, coinciding with Arab Financial Inclusion Day.
- Youth Celebration: August 1–15, coinciding with International Youth Day.
- Farmer’s Celebration: September 1–15, coinciding with Farmer’s Day.
- Savings Celebration: October 15–31, coinciding with Global Financial Inclusion Week and World Savings Day.
- Persons with Disabilities Celebration: December 1–15, coinciding with the celebration of persons with disabilities.
