Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber attended the inauguration of the main headquarters of the Bank of Alexandria on Qasr El-Nil Street following its renovation. The event was also attended by Paola Papanicolaou, head of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group, to which the bank is affiliated, and Paolo Vivona, CEO of the group. The renovation preserved the building’s historical and architectural significance while restoring the bank’s headquarters in downtown Cairo.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Deputy Cairo Governor Dr. Ahmad Anwar Attia along with several officials from the Cairo governorate and the Bank of Alexandria.
Governor Saber stated that the renovation of the Bank of Alexandria’s headquarters represents an important model of integration between state institutions and the banking sector in the restoration and revival of Khedivial Cairo. He added that Qasr El-Nil Street and downtown Cairo form an essential part of the capital’s heritage and architectural identity.
Saber further said that the governorate is committed to supporting efforts to revive Khedivial Cairo and preserve its historically significant buildings. It also encourages the restoration of the headquarters of institutions and organizations located there in a manner that balances heritage preservation with contemporary needs.
Moreover, Saber commended the Bank of Alexandria as one of the leading banks in Egypt’s banking sector. He emphasized the vital role banks play in supporting the national economy, financing diverse sectors, and contributing to boosting community development efforts.
Saber also said that the restoration of institutions and buildings in downtown Cairo contributes to restoring the capital’s civilized image, optimizing its urban and service environment, and reflecting its historical, touristic, and economic significance.
The Bank of Alexandria is one of the leading banks in Egypt’s banking sector. It was established in 1957, and it has joined the Italian Intesa Sanpaolo Group since 2007.
The renovation of the Bank of Alexandria’s headquarters on Qasr El-Nil Street aligns with the restoration plan of buildings and institutions in downtown Cairo. It aims to preserve the area’s distinctive features and consolidate its status as a key historical and economic hub of the capital.
