Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, affirmed that the development plan and studies for the national electricity grid are ongoing, noting the grid’s success in meeting the increased power demand during the summer. He also stressed that work is continuing in accordance with an integrated vision and specific implementation plans aimed at ensuring energy security, modernizing, developing, and strengthening the unified electricity grid, increasing its capacity, improving the level of services provided, and expanding reliance on renewable energy.
He further emphasized the continued monitoring, review, and assessment of the situation within the framework of the phased plan implemented during the summer, which enabled the electricity grid to accommodate the rise in loads and the unprecedented increase in consumption.
The remarks came during a meeting held by the Minister of Electricity with the Strategic Committee tasked with implementing work programs and evaluating performance across the ministry’s sectors. The meeting followed up on the achievement of the interim and strategic objectives of each sector.
The meeting addressed the implementation of the action plan to improve energy efficiency in the residential and industrial sectors, as well as efforts to rationalize electricity consumption, enhance energy security, and strengthen the unified grid to accommodate new energy sources. It also reviewed solar and wind energy projects scheduled to be connected to the grid, along with the timeline for each project.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sherif Helmy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority for Electricity Generation, stressed the importance of adhering to the rules and standards governing work, foremost among them quality, safety, and professional discipline standards, while continuing to develop scientific and technical capabilities in line with the nature and requirements of work in the field of nuclear energy.
The remarks came during an oath-taking ceremony for the newly appointed batch of engineers and scientists from various engineering and scientific disciplines, attended by a number of senior officials from the Authority.
