The Cairo Opera House opened entries
from contestants for the upcoming edition of the Ratiba El-Hefny Arab Music and
Singing Competition, 2023.
The competition will be part of
the 32nd edition of the Arab Music Festival, set to be
held from 20 October to 1 November. It aims
to discover new talents, singers, and instrumentalists -
aged 18 to 40 - in the Arabic music repertoire.
Ratiba El-Hefny (1931-2013) was
a world-renowned Egyptian Opera singer (Soprano) who performed in more
than 500 opera performances.
El-Hefny taught music at the
prestigious Higher Institute of Arab Music in Cairo and hosted
memorable television and radio programs on music over several
decades.
She chaired the newborn Cairo
Opera from 1988 to 1990, overseeing the formation of new companies such
as the National Arab Music Ensemble and the Cairo Opera House Children’s
Choir.
In the early 1990s, she launched The
Arab Music and Singing Competition.

1 October. Registration fees are EGP 200 for Egyptian artists and $100 for
non-Egyptians.
