Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli asserted the
government’s commitment to regularly monitoring the implementation of new and
renewable energy projects, aiming to maximize Egypt’s resources and position
the country as a key investment hub for the promising energy sector. This came
during Madbouli's meeting on Sunday, December 21st, 2025, at the government
headquarters in the New Administrative Capital with Minister of Electricity and
Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat to review the progress of renewable energy
projects.
Madbouli highlighted the continuous directives of
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to provide all necessary support for renewable
energy projects, particularly in upgrading the electricity grid and enhancing
the efficiency of transmission lines, ensuring optimal utilization of renewable
power.
The meeting reviewed the Egypt-Saudi electricity
interconnection project, with updates on ongoing work ahead of its operational
launch.
Esmat said that the project's first phase is being
finalized, which will enable the exchange of 1,500 megawatts, followed shortly
by the second phase, allowing the exchange of 3,000 megawatts.
Spokesman for the Cabinet Mohamed El-Homsani said that
Esmat briefed Madbouli on the current installed renewable energy capacity,
which has reached 8,866 megawatts from wind, solar and hydropower, alongside
300 megawatts per hour battery storage capacity.
Madbouli also reviewed the progress of power supply
projects for agricultural reclamation ventures in the New Delta and the efforts
of the ministry of electricity to strengthen the national electricity grid,
including the addition of power stations, transformers and transmission lines
of varying capacities to accommodate energy generated from renewable sources.
