Deputy
Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and
Transport Kamel El-Wazir discussed with General Manager of AVIC INTL Project
Engineering Company Qian Rong prospects of cooperation in the implementation of
the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project.
The meeting was
attended by Plenipotentiary Khaled Milad and Egypt’s Deputy Ambassador to China
Haitham Abdel Hadi.
The meeting took
place on the sideline of transport minister’s visit to China as an envoy of
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to attend the celebration marking the 80th
anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance.
Wazir extended
congratulations to AVIC manager Qian on the anniversary, emphasizing the
strength of bilateral relations and the fruitful cooperation with AVIC in
carrying out the LRT project.
For his part, Qian
hailed the partnership with Egypt’s Ministry of Transport in the implementation
of first and second phases of the LRT.
He also underlined
ongoing cooperation in completing the third phase.
Minister Wazir
highlighted President Sisi’s directives to expedite the completion and
operation of the Cathedral of the Nativity and Strategic Command stations
within the third phase of the LRT by March 2026 to serve residents of the New
Administrative Capital and improve mobility.
AVIC director said
that equipment for the third phase will be shipped from China to Egypt during
September and will be installed immediately upon arrival.
He affirmed AVIC
company’s commitment to the March 2026 deadline for operating the Cathedral of
the Nativity and Strategic Command stations, in line with President Sisi’s
directives.
The two sides
discussed future cooperation in implementation of phase four of the LRT,
extending from the New Obour station to 10th of Ramadan City.
Wazir stressed the
importance of phase four in serving the high population density and industrial
areas of 10th of Ramadan.
The meeting tackled
potential cooperation in phase five of the LRT, as well as updates on the
memorandum of understanding between the National Authority for Tunnels and AVIC
regarding the (Rehab – New Administrative Capital) electric train project,
extending from Rehab interchange station on Metro Line 4 eastwards to the New
Administrative Capital Airport station.
