Egypt’s
Minister of Culture Ahmed Fouad Hanou has inaugurated the 32nd Cairo
International Festival for Experimental Theatre (CIFET) at the Cairo Opera
House. The festival, which brings together leading Egyptian, Arab, and
international theatre figures, will run from September 1 to 8.
In
his speech, Hanou announced the launch of an International Training Centre that
will operate year-round, drawing on global expertise to provide wider
opportunities for continuous development of creative talent.
He
also called on the theatre community in Egypt and abroad to discuss renaming
the event to Cairo International Theatre Festival while keeping experimental
works as a core part of its program to enrich diversity and enhance the
festival’s standing on the global stage.
Hanou
said the festival embodies Egypt’s belief that art is a powerful bridge between
peoples and that theatre has the capacity to expand horizons and foster
dialogue across cultures.
This
year’s edition will use 11 theatres across Cairo to host experimental
performances from around the world.
