Cairo Gov. attends Egyptian-Chinese Association celebration
Cairo Governor Dr.
Ibrahim Saber attended a celebration hosted by the Egyptian-Chinese Friendship
Association, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's
Republic of China and the 10th anniversary of the launch of the comprehensive
strategic partnership between Egypt and China. The event took place at the
National Museum of Egyptian Civilization.
The event was attended by Ambassador Ali
Al-Hafni, Vice President of the Egyptian-Chinese Friendship Association, and
Ambassador Liao Liqiang, the Chinese Ambassador to Cairo.
In his speech, Saber emphasized that
Egyptian-Chinese relations have experienced continuous development across
various fields since the establishment of diplomatic relations on May 30, 1956.
He noted that Egypt was the first Arab and African country to establish
diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China.
Saber stated that today's celebration reflects
the strength and sustainability of the relationship between the two countries,
which has endured for more than six decades.
Moreover, Saber stated that Egyptian-Chinese
relations under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi have entered a rapidly advancing
phase of prosperity. These relations are not only rooted in the traditional
historical friendship between two ancient civilizations but are also primarily
focused on exploring new opportunities for the future in the era of the new
republic.
The current phase of cooperation is based on the
comprehensive strategic partnership agreement signed in 2014, which has been
reinforced by numerous visits from Egyptian political leaders to China, the
most recent of which occurred in May 2024. This has resulted in a significant
advancement in expanding and developing relations between the two nations
across all sectors, particularly in strengthening economic ties.
Saber also noted that the Cairo Governorate is
eager to keep pace with the significant leap in cooperation between the two
countries. It has also expedited the activation and implementation of existing
friendship and twinning agreements, in addition to ongoing efforts to establish
new sister city agreements with several Chinese cities.
Among these agreements, a twinning agreement
between Cairo and Beijing, signed on October 28, 1990, is the most significant.
Additionally, there is another agreement signed with the city of Xi'an on
December 22, 1997, aimed at preserving the cultural heritage of the four
ancient capitals.
Cairo also signed two agreements: one with
Shanxi Province on April 16, 2008, to establish friendly relations, and another
friendship and cooperation agreement with Shenyang on January 30, 2016.
Furthermore, efforts are underway to prepare a
memorandum of understanding between Cairo and Shanghai. Saber affirmed that all
of the above reflects a mutual commitment to exerting efforts—both historically
and currently—to maintain and develop these distinctive relations, as well as
to earnestly strive to expand them into broader horizons for the benefit of our
two peoples.
Saber noted that the favorable public perception
of China among many Egyptians, viewing it as a nation with an ancient
civilization that has evolved into one of the world's economic powers and a
successful model to emulate, is significant.
Saber also stated that their gathering at the
esteemed National Museum of Egyptian Civilization represents a renewed bond in
the journey of brotherhood and friendship, enhancing relations between our two
countries, Egypt and China. This event reaffirms our commitment to strengthening
and solidifying cooperation across all fields, particularly in light of the
modern renaissance currently underway in Egypt under the new republic and in
alignment with Egypt's Vision 2030.
Saber also confirmed that the Cairo Governorate
will work to promote Chinese tourism and attract additional Chinese investments
to Cairo. Furthermore, they will activate and facilitate all agreements in a
manner that serves the interests of both peoples.
