Minister of Local Development Dr. Manal Awad and Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber inaugurated the Fayrouz Park in Mokattam. The park covers an area of 7,000 m2 and is ready to receive nearly 500 citizens daily. It has restrooms, pergolas, seating areas, food stalls, and a 300-m2 kid’s area.  

Following the inauguration, Awad and Saber conducted an inspection tour of the park to check on the preparation of planting flowerbeds, decorative features, walkways, pergolas, and various plants and saplings in the park, in addition to the kids’ area and the wooden benches along the park.

After that, Awad and Saber inaugurated the development work of the Heliopolis Plant Nursery in the Nozha district. It is on an area of 3 acres and serves the neighborhoods of eastern Cairo.

The nursery features 83 varieties of trees, shrubs, medicinal plants, aromatic plants, herbs, succulents, and shade plants. It produces approximately 100,000 seedlings annually, sold at affordable prices for citizens.

For her part, Minister Awad asserted the government's commitment to increasing green spaces as part of its priorities in addressing climate change, protecting the environment, and increasing the per capita share of green areas across Egypt.

Moreover, Awad said the Ministry of Local Development is coordinating with other relevant ministries to implement the presidential initiative to plant 100 million trees. She added that the ministry contributed to the planting of 80 million trees over a period of seven years from 2022 - 2029.

Awad praised the role of the Cairo Governorate in providing a clean and healthy environment and increasing the share of citizens in green spaces. She commended the governorate's efforts in creating public parks to serve as a recreational area for residents of various neighborhoods and social classes.

For his part, Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber emphasized that the inauguration of the park and nursery comes as part of the efforts made by the Cairo Governorate to increase green spaces in the city to improve air quality, mitigate the risks of global warming and climate change, increase the per capita share of green areas, and enhance the living conditions of citizens.

Furthermore, Saber stated that Cairo has around 27 plant nurseries and is working to establish 38 nurseries across the capital so that each neighborhood will be a nursery. The trees will be sold at symbolic prices to citizens, enabling them to plant and care for them.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Cairo Governors Ashraf Mansour and Mona Batrawy, Secretary-General Yahia Adgham, and Head of the Cairo Cleaning and Beautification Authority Waleed Abu El-Nasr.
