The Ministry of Education confirmed that second-year students enrolled in the Egyptian Baccalaureate system will take exams twice during the academic year. The first exam is mandatory and will be held in May free of charge. The second exam is optional and will be held in July of the same academic year, with an exam fee of EGP 200 per subject. In all cases, students are entitled to sit for the exams for a period of four academic years.
The Ministry of Education also explained that students enrolled in the third year of the Baccalaureate system will take the exams twice in the same year in which they apply. The first attempt is mandatory and will be free of charge in June, while the second attempt is optional and will be held in August of the same academic year, with an exam fee of EGP 200 per subject. Students are also entitled to retake second-year subjects under the Baccalaureate system during the same academic year in which they are enrolled in the third year of secondary school, either in the May or July session, subject to an exam fee of EGP 200 per subject.
To be eligible to take the first exam for both the second and third years under the Baccalaureate system, as well as the General Secondary Education Certificate examination, students must complete 60% of the weekly and monthly assignments and assessments for each subject, starting from the 2026/2027 academic year under the Baccalaureate system.
For the General Secondary Education Certificate (third year of secondary school), this requirement will apply starting from the 2027/2028 academic year, with the assessment distributed as follows:
- Project: 15 marks
- Weekly assessment: 20 marks
- Homework and classroom performance: 15 marks
- Behavior and attendance: 10 marks
- Monthly assessment (1): 20 marks
- Monthly assessment (2): 20 marks
