President Sisi follows up on revitalization of Historic, Islamic Cairo landmarks

President Abdel Fattah El‑Sisi held a meeting with Minister of Religious Endowments Dr. Osama Al‑Azhari, Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Presidential Advisor for Urban Planning Maj. Gen. Amir Sayed Ahmed, Chief of the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces Maj. Gen. Walid Aref, Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority.

During the meeting, the Presidential Spokesman stated that the President reviewed ongoing efforts to revive the landmarks of Islamic and Historic Cairo. 

Meanwhile, Minister Al-Azhari outlined the progress of the restoration and revival project of numerous historic mosques and mausoleum. He added that these efforts will open up more integrated tourist routes linking various historical and heritage sites. Once the ongoing projects are completed, the “Heart of Cairo” will become an open tourist hub enhancing tourist activity.

Presidential Spokesman El-Shennawi stated that Cairo Governor emphasized concurrent efforts to revive many of the landmarks of Khedival, Historic, and Islamic Cairo, alongside infrastructure rehabilitation and development in the historic sites and their surroundings.
In this context, the President called on state authorities to persist in their efforts to revive Cairo’s diverse historical and heritage landmarks and to upgrade the surrounding areas to boost tourism. 

Moreover, the president stressed the importance of adopting a “Greening Cairo” project aimed at converting any vacated space into green areas.
The Spokesman further said that the meeting also reviewed plans by the Egyptian Awqaf Authority to develop various real estate assets belonging to the Ministry of Awqaf, as well as to enhance cooperation frameworks with specialized companies and real estate developers.    

The President also urged to continue the inventory and documentation of all assets and properties owned by the Awqaf Authority, in order to preserve and maintain those assets. It also aims to maximize their optimal utilization in accordance with the conditions set by their founders.
