Consumer Protection Agency uses AI to detect price manipulation, identify risk hotspots

Ibrahim El-Segini, Head of the Consumer Protection Agency, announced during his participation in Egypt Forum 2026 that the agency is using artificial intelligence to analyze consumer complaints, inspection campaign data, prices, advertisements, and online stores to detect violation patterns and identify high-risk sectors and areas.

During the session titled “A More Effective Social Protection System,” El-Segini explained that these technologies aim to improve the agency’s ability to detect early signs of price manipulation or commodity hoarding and direct inspection campaigns toward potential sources of risk before their impact on citizens worsens.

He noted that the agency is also developing a unified electronic system to manage inspection campaigns and connect its branches to a central database, improving information exchange, supporting decision-making, and enhancing resource efficiency.

He added that the complaints system is being upgraded to automatically classify reports and refer them to the relevant departments, prioritizing complaints with a broad impact. This will help identify problems early and accelerate responses.

The agency’s head stressed that digital transformation goes beyond digitizing procedures; it aims to establish a proactive monitoring system while adhering to personal data protection regulations, verifying the accuracy of results, and maintaining the central role of human judgment in decision-making and legal action.
