Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber said that the governorate is working to reorganize the locations of various commercial businesses, including car showrooms, to ensure the optimal use of available public spaces across the capital while maintaining the character of residential areas.
The governor’s remarks came during a meeting held to review procedures for relocating car showrooms outside Cairo's residential areas to alternative areas by the end of 2027. The meeting also discussed surveying both authorized and unauthorized showrooms across Cairo’s districts as part of the state's efforts to ease traffic congestion, prevent the misuse of pavements and public spaces, and regulate the distribution of commercial businesses away from densely populated areas.
The meeting was attended by deputy governors along with Nour El-Din Darwish, the Head of the Auto Agents, Distributors, and Traders Division at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce; Counselor Osama Abu El-Magd, Chairman of the Egyptian Automobile Dealers Association and Deputy Head of the Chamber's Automotive Division; as well as several stakeholders and officials from the Cairo governorate.
Governor Saber said during the meeting that the decision to relocate car showrooms outside residential areas aims to reorganize the businesses to designated locations appropriate for the scale and nature of the commercial establishments. It will also be equipped with the necessary requirements for its operation. He added that the step will help reduce encroachments and illegal parking, ease traffic congestion, and protect the interests of showroom owners and employees.
Moreover, Saber further said that Cairo Governorate is considering appropriate alternatives in coordination with the relevant authorities. The relocation process will be executed through an integrated vision that ensures the allocation of designated locations for the businesses to operate. It will also take into account the economic and social interests of showroom owners and preserving the capital's urban and aesthetic character.
