Metro

The first line

  • The first metro line extends from Helwan Station to New El Marg Station. The line has 35 stations (30 surface stations and 5 underground stations).
  • Stations:
    Helwan, Ain Helwan, Helwan University, Wadi Hof, Hadayek Helwan, El Maasara, Tora El Asmant, Kotsika, Tora El Balad, Maadi Barracks, Maadi, Hadayek El Maadi, Dar El Salam, El Zahraa, Mar Girgis, El Malek El Saleh, Sayeda Zeinab, Saad Zaghloul, Sadat (Tahrir) (interchange station with Line 2), Gamal Abdel Nasser (interchange station with Line 3), Ahmed Orabi, Al Shohadaa (Ramses) (interchange station with Line 2), Ghamra, El Demerdash, Manshiet El Sadr, Kobri El Qobba, Hammamat El Qobba, Saray El Qobba, Hadayek El Zeitoun, Helmiet El Zeitoun, El Matareya, Ain Shams, Ezbet El Nakhl, El Marg, New El Marg.

The second line

  • The second metro line extends from Shubra El Kheima Station in Qalyubia Governorate to El Mounib Station in Giza Governorate. It has two interchange stations with the first metro line: Al Shohadaa and Sadat. The line has 20 stations (12 underground stations, 6 surface stations, and 2 elevated stations).
  • Stations:
    El Mounib, Sakiat Mekki, Giza Suburbs (Om El Masryeen), Giza (interchange station with Line 4), Faisal, Cairo University (interchange station with Line 3), El Bohouth, Dokki, Opera, Sadat (Tahrir) (interchange station with Line 1), Mohamed Naguib, Ataba (interchange station with Line 3), Al Shohadaa (Ramses) (interchange station with Line 1), Massara, Rod El Farag, Saint Teresa, Khalafawy, El Mazallat, Faculty of Agriculture, Shubra El Kheima.

The third line

The third metro line has a total length of 41.2 km and was implemented in four phases:

Phase One:
This phase extends from Ataba Station to Abbassia Station, with a length of 4.4 km, and consists of 5 underground stations: (Ataba – Bab El Shaaria – El Geish – Abdo Pasha – Abbassia).

Phase Two:
This phase extends from Abbassia Station to El Ahram Station, with a length of 7.7 km, and consists of 4 underground stations: (Ard El Maared – Stadium – Girls’ College – El Ahram).

Phase Three:
Part One:
Extends for 4 km and includes 4 underground stations: (Gamal Abdel Nasser – Maspero – Safaa Hegazy – Kit Kat).
Part Two:
Extends for 6.6 km and includes:
•    1 underground station: Sudan 
•    4 elevated stations: (Imbaba – El Bohy – El Qawmeya El Arabia – Ring Road) 
•    1 surface station: the final station at Rod El Farag Axis. 
Part Three:
Extends for 7.1 km and includes:
•    3 underground stations: (Tawfikia – Wadi El Nile – League of Arab States) 
•    1 elevated station: Cairo University 
•    1 surface station: Bolak El Dakrour.

Phase Four:
Part One (Haroun – El Shams Club):
Extends for 3.7 km from Haroun to El Shams Club and includes 4 underground stations:
(Haroun – Heliopolis – Alf Maskan – El Shams Club).
Part Two (El Shams Club – Adly Mansour):
Extends for 7.8 km and includes 6 elevated stations:
(El Nozha – Hesham Barakat – Qobaa – Omar Ibn El Khattab – El Haykestep – Adly Mansour).

Lines Under Construction:

The Fourth Metro Line:

  • The route extends from the west of the Ring Road on the borders of 6th of October City, passing through the Grand Egyptian Museum Station, then Remaya Square, and along Al Haram Street to Giza Station, where it connects with Metro Line 2. It then continues to connect with Metro Line 1 at El Malek El Saleh Station, extending to Magra El Oyoun Station, then to Salah Salem Street, and from there to El Nasr Road until Al Mokawloon Al Arab Club, ending at the Integrated Transport Center north of the intersection of the Ring Road and Cairo/Suez Road, passing through Nasr City and El Rehab.
  • The line is expected to transport approximately 2 million passengers daily. The total length of the line is 42 km, and it includes 39 stations (37 underground stations and 2 surface stations). It will be implemented in two phases:

Phase One:
It includes the areas of 6th of October City – Remaya Square – Al Haram – El Malek El Saleh – Fustat. The length of this phase is 19 km, and it includes 17 stations. The route starts from Hadayek El Ashgar Station next to the workshop west of the Ring Road on the borders of 6th of October City, passing through the Grand Egyptian Museum, then Remaya Square, and Al Haram Street to Giza Station, where it provides an interchange with Metro Line 2.
The line then crosses beneath the Nile to El Malek El Saleh Metro Station, where it connects with Metro Line 1, and continues to Fustat Station, the end of the first phase. This line will connect Cairo Governorate, Giza Governorate, and 6th of October City.

Phase Two:
It includes Fustat – Nasr City – New Cairo. The length of this phase is 23 km, and it includes 22 stations. It starts from Fustat Station on Amr Ibn Al-As Street in Old Cairo, continuing to Salah Salem Street toward the Citadel, then turning right to Mansheyet Nasser through El Nasr Road, El Doweiqa, and El Arab District.
It continues to Al Mokawloon Al Arab Club and Railway Club on El Nasr Road, passing by Al-Azhar University, then turns right to El Shaheed Axis, and left to Mostafa El Nahhas Street, crossing El Tayaran Street, Abbas El Akkad Street, Makram Ebeid Street, and Hassan El Maamoun Street.
The route continues along Mostafa El Nahhas Street until El Teba area, then turns right through Mahdi Arafa Street to reach El Methaq Street (Ahmed El Zomor) in the 10th District of Nasr City. It continues to Zahraa Nasr City, crosses the Ring Road at Police Academy near the entrance of the First Settlement, then turns left onto Mostafa Kamel Axis beside El Rehab City, continuing until Cairo–Suez Desert Road near the English School in Cairo, reaching the workshop area east of the Ring Road and north of Cairo–Suez Desert Road.

Important stations for passengers and nearby landmarks around metro stations

  • Al Shohadaa Station: An interchange station between Metro Lines 1 and 2. Its main importance is that it connects with Ramses Railway Station (Egypt Railway Station). It is also located near important commercial areas such as El Sabteya, El Fagalla, and El Gomhoreya Street.
  • Sadat Station: An interchange station between Metro Lines 1 and 2. It is considered the center of Cairo and a meeting point for many important facilities, including the former Mugamma El Tahrir, the Cabinet, the House of Representatives, the Egyptian Museum, and Qasr El Nile Bridge.
  • Ataba Station: The closest station to downtown Cairo.
  • Stadium Station: Near Cairo International Stadium.
  • Bab El Shaaria Station: The closest station to Islamic Cairo on the northern side.
  • Cairo University Station: Near Cairo University.
  • Manshiet El Sadr Station: Near Ain Shams University.
  • Helwan University Station: Close to Helwan University.
  • Opera Station: Next to the Cairo Opera House and the closest station to Zamalek and the Nile Corniche.
  • Giza Station: Next to Giza Railway Station and provides access to buses heading to the Pyramids.
  • Mar Girgis Station: Located in the heart of Coptic Cairo, near the Hanging Church and the Religious Complex.
  • Mohamed Naguib Station: Near Abdeen Palace.
  • Gamal Abdel Nasser Station: Near 26th of July Street and the High Court, and one of the closest stations to downtown Cairo.
  • Helwan Station: Near the Japanese Garden and the beginning of the highway to Upper Egypt.
