Cairo governor inspects ongoing construction of stary dog shelter
21 April 2026
About

Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber inspected the ongoing construction work for the stray dog shelter project to monitor its progress.

Governor Saber said that this shelter is a collaborative effort among the Cairo Governorate, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the General Authority for Veterinary Services in an area of 5000 m² east of the Autostrad road in the Tebbin neighborhood to provide a place to house stray dogs, with the aim of ensuring public safety for citizens without prejudice to the principle of animal welfare.

Moreover, Saber stated that the shelter, expected to be completed within two months, will be managed scientifically, based on the principle that animal welfare is a fundamental element for maintaining environmental balance. This will be in cooperation with the General Authority for Veterinary Services and the Cairo Directorate of Veterinary Medicine. Collaboration will also extend to NGOs and civil society organizations concerned with animal welfare issues in managing the shelter and providing care for the dogs.

Saber mentioned that the shelter would deliver medical care via a dedicated team of expert veterinarians. It will feature specific zones for dog care and provide adoption services once dogs are confirmed healthy, free of diseases, and fully vaccinated.
