About

Minister of Local Development Dr. Manal Awad and Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber inspected the construction work of two new parking lots behind the Manara International Conferences Center. The construction work is conducted by the Cairo Cleaning and Beautification Authority to provide parking spaces for the delegations participating in the 12th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12), which will be held in Cairo from November 4 to 8, to accommodate the expected number of participants in the forum.

During their tour, Dr. Manal Awad and Dr. Ibrahim Saber listened to the presentation of the Chairman of Cairo’s General Authority for Cleaning and Beautification, Ehab El-Shershaby, on the efforts of the authority, its work teams, and the equipment and vehicles used for leveling and grading the ground along the road. It also included preparing and planning the waiting areas, organizing the entrances, exits, and stairs, and placing guide signs in Arabic and English.

Moreover, Awad stressed the importance of the cleaning authority’s continuous efforts around the clock to finish the preparation of the parking lots on schedule. She also urged the improvement of the overall appearance of all areas surrounding the Manara International Conferences Center and the road axes leading to it, along with upgrading and developing the gardens around the center.

Awad also emphasized Egypt's commitment to holding this forum in a manner befitting Egypt and its regional and international status, given it is the second largest UN event on the United Nations agenda after the Climate Summit and the most significant global event concerning urbanization and inclusive urban development for all.

For his part, Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber said these activities are part of the preparations by the governorate to welcome the international guests participating in the urban forum and to provide all the logistical support accompanying the forum's events.

Saber also asserted that there is a daily follow-up on the various arrangements for hosting the forum, particularly regarding transportation, infrastructure, organizing visits, and coordinating the work of volunteers, noting that all the governorate's bodies are working diligently and in a coordinated manner with all relevant ministries and authorities involved in organizing this major event.

To register for the twelfth session of the World Urban Forum, visit the official forum website: https://wuf.unhabitat.org/wuf12 before the registration deadline on October 30, 2024.

The governor was accompanied by Deputy Cairo Governor Mona Batrawy and several officials of Ministry of Local Development and the Cairo governorate.
