King Ramses II’s coffin and 181 other artefacts are currently on display in Germany at the interactive exhibition ‘Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs’.

The exhibit is taking place at the Odysseum Hall in Cologne from July 13, 2024, to January 6, 2025. This marks its fifth location after being showcased in Houston and San Francisco in the US, as well as in Paris and Sydney.

The opening ceremony was attended by a delegation from Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities along with various public and government figures, archaeologists, and tourism specialists from Germany.

The ministry said in a statement that the exhibition aims to promote Egypt’s cultural tourism and highlight the ancient Egyptian civilization.

It announced that the exhibition drew significant public interest from its opening hours. Thousands of visitors from across German cities waited in line for hours to enter the exhibition hall at Odysseum and witness the treasures of King Ramses.

“All tickets for the first day of the exhibition were sold out at the ticket counters, with a total of 35,000 tickets sold so far,” the ministry’s statement said.

Germany is crucial for Egypt’s tourism market, being one of the primary markets for tourism to Egypt.

The exhibition showcases items from various Egyptian museums, highlighting the unique aspects of ancient Egyptian civilization from the Middle Kingdom to the Late Period.

Visitors can admire statues, ornaments, cosmetics, paintings, inscribed stone blocks, and colorful wooden coffins on display. In addition, there are some other artefacts from the discoveries of the Egyptian mission in the Bubasteion necropolis in Saqqara.
