Egypt’s state-owned
vaccine producer VACSERA has said that the seasonal influenza vaccine is
available throughout the year, stressing that immunity begins to develop about
two weeks after vaccination, helping reduce both the risk of infection and the
severity of complications.
In a statement, the
company explained that the influenza vaccine is administered as an injection in
the arm and works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies
against the virus. VACSERA noted that vaccination significantly reduces the
frequency of influenza infections as well as the intensity of symptoms among
those who do contract the virus.
Dr Sherif El-Feel,
Managing Executive Director of VACSERA, said the seasonal flu vaccine is
currently available at all Ministry of Health units and centres, as well as at
VACSERA branches across Cairo and other governorates. El-Feel
explained that three different types of influenza vaccines are available
through all outlets, confirming that VACSERA provides a full range of approved
vaccines for Egyptian citizens.
He added that all
vaccines supplied by VACSERA are safe and subject to continuous monitoring and
periodic testing to ensure both effectiveness and safety. El-Feel also noted
that preparations for the influenza vaccination season begin early each year as
part of the company’s preventive health strategy. Health
officials continue to encourage vaccination as one of the most effective tools
for limiting the spread of seasonal influenza and protecting high-risk groups
from serious complications.
