President
Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in
Sharm El-Sheikh, on the sidelines of the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for Peace. The
meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian
Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdel-Atty, and Director of the General Intelligence
Service Major General Hassan Rashad.
Presidential
Spokesman Ambassador Mohammed El-Shennawy stated that President El-Sisi praised
the ongoing progress in Egyptian-Italian relations, underscoring the importance
of further strengthening cooperation across political, economic, and commercial
sectors. He also emphasized expanding joint collaboration in energy,
agriculture, construction, and tourism, along with other fields of mutual
interest. Both leaders discussed enhancing trade and investment ties and
promoting greater engagement between the private sectors and business
communities of both countries.
Prime
Minister Meloni expressed her satisfaction with the deepening partnership
between Egypt and Italy and highlighted the importance of building on the
positive momentum achieved in recent years.
The
talks also addressed several regional developments, particularly the situation
in Gaza. Prime Minister Meloni commended Egypt’s pivotal role in facilitating
the agreement to end the war, reaffirming Italy’s full support for efforts
aimed at restoring regional stability. President El-Sisi stressed the
significance of the ceasefire agreement, which he said was the culmination of
Egypt’s sustained efforts, in coordination with Qatar and the United States,
over the past two years to end the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
He
emphasized that the agreement represents a crucial step toward halting
hostilities, ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid, securing the release of
hostages and detainees, expediting reconstruction, and paving the way for the
establishment of an independent Palestinian state, in line with international resolutions.
During
the meeting, Prime Minister Meloni reiterated Italy’s support for Egypt within
the European Union framework, as both sides looked ahead to the upcoming
Egypt-EU Summit scheduled for October 22, 2025, in Brussels.
