Cairo
Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber conducted an inspection tour of the areas
surrounding Ramses Square to follow up on the progress of restoring order to it,
including Ahmed Helmy bus station and the Lemon Bridge. This initiative is part
of the state's efforts to redesign the square.
The governor was
accompanied by Deputy Governors Ibrahim Abdel Hadi and Dr. Hossam El-Din Fawzy,
along with several officials from the Cairo Governorate.
During his tour,
Saber stated that approximately 130 kiosks and stalls have been removed from
above the Lemon Bridge. All encroachments in that area have been cleared
following the relocation of street vendors to alternative locations.
Moreover, Saber
urged executive bodies to continuously monitor the situation to prevent further
encroachments and to preserve the area's aesthetic appearance.
Governor Saber added
that the Lemon Bridge, a heritage site, will be restored and preserved as one
of Khedivial Cairo's landmarks, in cooperation with the Urban Harmony Authority
and the Railway Authority.
Saber further stated
that in the coming period, all vendor stalls and taxis would be relocated from
Ramses Square to more organized locations as part of efforts to restore order
to the area.
Saber added that
encroachments have been removed from the Ahmed Helmy bus station in Shubra. The
station is being redesigned and its efficiency improved in preparation for the
transfer of approximately 1,000 microbuses starting next Monday. These
microbuses will be relocated from informal stations above the Lemon Bridge and
in Ramses Square.
The microbuses to be
transferred serve the lines of Kafr El-Sheikh, Mansoura, Al-Mahalla,
Alexandria, Beni Suef, Fayoum, and Banha. They will be relocated to the Ahmed
Helmy bus station, which is very close to their current unregulated location.
