Cairo
Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber and Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Dr. Sherif
Farouq inaugurated a one-day market in the Gamaleya neighborhood of the Wast
Al-Qahira district. That comes as part of the second phase of the One-day
Markets Initiative. It is a collaborative effort between the Cairo Governorate,
the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, and the Holding Company for Food
Industries. The initiative aims to provide high-quality food commodities at
prices 20% to 50% lower than those in other markets.
The inauguration
ceremony was attended by Deputy Cairo Governor Ibrahim Abdel Hadi, Chairman of
the Cairo Chamber of Commerce Ayman Ashri, Chairman of the Holding Company for
Food Industries Dr. Alaa Nagi, and several officials of the Cairo governorate.
During the
inauguration, Governor Saber said the initiative aligns with the directives of
the political leadership to combat high prices, provide food commodities to
citizens at affordable prices, and offer all possible support.
Saber added that the
one-day markets initiative has helped transform citizens into partners and
monitors of the markets by enabling them to compare the discounts offered with
the prices of goods in different regions. He also noted that the locations of
these markets change based on supply, demand, and the needs of the citizens.
Moreover, Saber
stated that one-day markets meet citizens' needs by offering fresh products,
such as vegetables, fruits, and other food items, at reasonable prices. These
markets also provide a variety of goods that cater to different social groups,
thereby enhancing citizens' ability to meet their daily needs affordably.
Saber also urged
Cairo residents to purchase their weekly necessities from the temporary markets
and take advantage of the discounts.
Saber further
instructed the district chiefs to provide logistical support to the markets and
to promote their expansion within the districts, ensuring that citizens have
access to high-quality goods at reasonable prices.
The Gamaleya one-day
market, which opened on the morning of Sunday, July 27, operates from 8:00 AM
to 5:00 PM. It offers a wide range of basic commodities, including oil, sugar,
rice, ghee, pasta, detergents, and soap, as well as poultry, meat, milk, cheese,
vegetables, fruits, juices, honey, legumes, and eggs.
