Egypt's Ministry of Social Solidarity officially
launched celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of the "Takaful and
Karama" conditional cash transfer program for the marginalized groups,
under the patronage and in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
Takaful and Karama program was launched in 2015,
targeting 1.7 million families, said Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Mosry.
Since then, it has expanded significantly, serving a total of 7.7 million
families to date, with approximately 4.7 million families currently benefiting
from the program, she added.
The Minister of Social Solidarity the Takaful and
Karama program represents the largest social protection initiative implemented
in Egypt over the past decade.
Minister Maya Morsy also announced Egypt’s adoption of
a new international platform dedicated to coordinating social protection
policies. The platform will serve as a forum for experts and stakeholders to
celebrate achievements, exchange ideas, and collaborate on advancing social
protection efforts globally.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stated that funding
for the Takaful and Karama program has reached EGP 41 billion in the
current fiscal year, with plans to increase it to EGP 55 billion in the
upcoming fiscal year.
