Egyptian
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Badr Abdelatty, chaired a
coordination meeting with the participation of relevant sectors within the
Ministry as part of Egypt's preparations to host the second ministerial meeting
of the Khartoum Process due on April 9, 2025.
The meeting included
the ministers concerned with migration from the member states of the Khartoum
Process.
During the meeting,
the latest substantive, procedural, and logistical preparations for the
ministerial meeting to be held in Cairo were reviewed.
The Khartoum Process
is a platform for political cooperation for the countries along the migration
route between the Horn of Africa and Europe. It was established on 28 November
2014, at a Ministerial Conference held in Rome. It aims to fight the
trafficking in human beings and the smuggling of migrants. It is also known as
“the EU-Horn of Africa Migration Route Initiative.”
Its membership
includes 40 countries, including the European Union countries, in addition to
Switzerland, Norway, the Horn of Africa and East Africa countries, the European
Union Commission, the African Union Commission, and several international
organizations partnering with the process.
The Egyptian
presidency of the Khartoum Process has organized a number of activities and
workshops since April 2024, addressing topics related to migration,
development, and combating human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
