Cairo Gov. orders swift completion of Historic Cairo Development Project

Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber inspected the ongoing development works of the
Historic Cairo area, which the state places enormous importance on, aiming to
restore the area’s significance and tourism position.
The governor was
accompanied by Deputy Cairo Governor Ibrahim Abdel Hadi, Director of Awqaf
Directorate Sheikh Khaled Salah, General Coordinator of the Urban Development
Fund Ihab Hanafi, and several officials of the Cairo governorate and the
Ministry of Antiquities.
During his tour,
Saber stated that the ongoing development project is a collaborative effort
involving the governorate, the Urban Development Fund, and the Engineering
Authority. These projects encompass the area behind Al-Hakim Mosque, Umm
Al-Ghulam Street, Al-Husseiny area, Bab Zuweila, and Darb Al-Labana.
Saber also
emphasized that the overarching vision for the development project in historic
Cairo focuses on preserving and enhancing the social and economic activities
within the urban fabric. The goal is to create a new historical tourist
destination that revitalizes the capital's glory and status.
Moreover, Saber confirmed
the existence of a specialized advisory team with expertise in the area's
history, assigned to restore buildings and optimize the use of spaces.
Saber asserted that
they are addressing all challenges to accelerate the project's completion and
improve its execution rates, given its status as a national project.
Saber also
emphasized that all activities and workshops that are not appropriate for the
area's characteristics will be relocated.
