Dr. Hala El Said, Minister of Planning and Economic
Development met with Dr. Khaled El Enany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities.
They discussed a number of joint issues, including following up on plans and
targets in the tourism sector. They also discussed activating the Tourism
Satellite Accounts unit at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
The Minister of Planning and Economic Development said that
the tourism sector is one of the most affected sectors by the Covid 19 crisis.
She added that despite this negative impact, there are opportunities for
development and improving performance. In addition to taking advantage of this
period to raise the sector’s efficiency in terms of equipment and
infrastructure and human resources development, as well as structural and
technical improvements.
El-Saied emphasized the necessity of activating the role of
the Tourism Satellite Accounts unit in the tourism sector. She said that this
unit enables the state to analyze all data on tourism and build a strategy with
realistic and achievable goals that are in line with the Egypt Vision 2030.
Dr. Hala El Saied indicated that the Tourism Satellite
Accounts unit is useful in developing realistic estimates of the size of the
tourism activity and setting the measures necessary to achieve future plans. In
addition to enabling the state to evaluate the performance of the sector and
its developmental impacts in light of its intertwined relations with the rest
of the sectors in the national economy. She added that this unit will ensure
the standardization of data sources according to a scientific methodology that
facilitates analysis and comparison with international standards to understand
the competitive capabilities of the tourism sector in Egypt.
Dr. Khaled El-Enany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities,
confirmed that there is close cooperation with the Ministry of Planning and
Economic Development in setting the objectives and plans of the Ministry of
Tourism and Antiquities at the level of short and long-term plans in harmony
with Egypt's Vision 2030. He added the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is
very keen on activating the TSA unit s that will provide accurate and organized
tourism statistics in order to be able to identify the real contribution of
tourism to the national economy and to identify its achievements. In addition
to evaluating performance levels and support investment decisions, activation
and tourism promotion.
The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities stated that Egypt
was able to achieve great successes in the tourism and antiquities sectors
despite the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that Egypt provided an important model
for work based on accurate planning. He added that Egypt announced a number of
discoveries that will have a positive impact on the resumption of tourism; a
vital sector that was affected worldwide as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
