Cairo gov. orders follow-up on shops opening, closing hours
Cairo Governor
Khaled Abdel Aal directed district chiefs to follow up on the enforcement of
summer working hours of shops, restaurants, shopping malls, and cafes following
the implementation of daylight saving time started on Friday, April 26.
Abdel Aal asserted
the strict implementation of the summer working hours for opening and closing
shops in coordination with the Cairo Security Directorate and all
relevant authorities to ensure compliance with the new opening and closing
hours along with intensifying inspection campaigns on all shops to follow up on
owners' adherence to the set schedules and take all necessary legal actions
against violators.
Moreover, Abdel Aal
said the state aims, through implementing this decision, to establish order in
the streets, reduce chaos, prevent encroachments and traffic congestion, and
preserve public facilities and infrastructure.
The summer working hours
includes opening shops and malls daily from 7 am until 11 pm, with extended
hours on Thursdays, Fridays, official holidays, and weekends closing at
midnight.
Restaurants and
cafes, including those in malls, will open daily from 5 am to 1 am during the
summer, with 24-hour takeaway and delivery services available.
On the other hand,
opening hours for all workshops and crafts shops within residential areas are
daily from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm in the summer, except for workshops located on
roadsides and fuel stations, as well as workshops providing urgent services to
citizens that require approval from the Higher Committee for General Store
Licenses. Grocery stores, supermarkets, and bakeries are exempt from these
hours, considering the nighttime activities of some stores, such as fruit and
vegetable shops, poultry stores, wholesale markets, and pharmacies.
