Cairo Governor inspects several districts across Cairo

     Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal conducted an inspection tour of several districts across the capital, including Downtown, Roxy, Shubra, Rod El-Farag, Manial, as well as Port Said and Qadry Streets, to follow up on the enforcement of the new opening and closing hours of shops announced by Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli, effective from 1 July until 26 September.

Mr. Governor praised the immediate response from shop, restaurant, cafe, and workshop owners and their adherence to the new closing times, adding the latest decision comes as part of the government plan to conserve electricity to reduce the import of petroleum products, which increased due to extreme heat and unprecedented increase in electricity consumption.        

Abdel Aal also said that all workshops in the capital's districts have complied with the decision and closed their doors at seven in the evening.

Moreover, Abdel Aal said the government’s decision took into consideration achieving a balance between national interest and the interest of citizens in conducting their commercial activities.  

Abdel Aal also stated the announced opening and closing hours will be implemented in coordination with the Cairo Security Directorate and all relevant executive bodies to ensure compliance of the owners of the shops along with intensifying inspection campaigns on all commercial and taking necessary legal actions against violators.  

Abdel Aal was accompanied with Deputy Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber and several officials of Cairo Governorate.

According to the decision, commercial shops will open from 7 am to 10 pm on weekdays and from 7 am to 11 pm on weekends (Thursday and Friday).

Shopping malls will operate from 10 am to 12 am on weekdays and from 10 am to 1 am on weekends and public holidays.

Restaurants, cafes, and bazaars will be open from 6 am to 12 am on weekdays and from 6 am to 1 am on weekends and public holidays, with delivery services and takeaways permitted 24 hours.

Workshops will be open daily from 8 am to 7 pm, exempted from that decision workshops on roads and gas stations providing urgent services to citizens.

Supermarkets, bakeries, fruit and vegetable shops, hypermarkets, and pharmacies are exempted from these operating times due to the crucial services they provide to citizens.
