Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal attended Sunday, August 20, Minister of Culture Nevin El-Kilany’s inauguration of “The Egyptian Heritage House” at the Fustat Traditional Crafts Center. Also in attendance were Deputy Cairo Governor Jihan Abdel Moneim, Director of the UNESCO Cairo Office Dr. Nuria Sanz, Chairman of the National Organization for Urban Harmony Mohammad Abu Saada, several Arab and foreign ambassadors, and representatives of heritage conservation organizations.

During the inauguration ceremony, Abdel Aal emphasized that the Cairo governorate pays full attention to preserving and protecting intangible cultural heritage while focusing on community participation in all intangible heritage elements to achieve sustainability.

The celebration included an exhibition of heritage crafts, Arabic calligraphy, handmade textiles, pottery, ceramics, and other heritage crafts. There was also a display of living heritage, such as the traditional crafts industry. Traditional food and drinks were also served to convey knowledge related to Egyptian heritage.

The Egyptian Heritage House, inaugurated at the Fustat Traditional Crafts Center, houses the contents of National Archives of Intangible Cultural Heritage, given that Egypt was one of the first countries to sign the UNESCO Intangible Heritage Convention 20 years ago.
