Health Ministry announces readiness for measles, rubella vaccination campaign on October 25

The Ministry of Health and Population announced the readiness of all governorates to implement the national vaccination campaign against measles and rubella, scheduled to launch on October 25, 2026, as part of its strategic plan to strengthen community immunity, raise protection levels among children, and preserve Egypt’s public health achievements in combating vaccine-preventable diseases.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, confirmed that the preparatory meeting reviewed the status of preparations across governorates, examined implementation plans and targeted vaccination coverage, assessed the readiness of vaccination and supervisory teams, and ensured the availability of vaccines, medical supplies, and the operational and logistical requirements necessary to guarantee that the campaign launches according to the established plan and achieves the highest levels of efficiency and quality. He emphasized that effective field monitoring and continuous coordination between the central supervisory team and health directorates are fundamental pillars of the campaign’s success. He also stressed the need to immediately identify and address any obstacles and ensure full integration between planning, supervision, and implementation.

For his part, Dr. Radi Hamad, Head of the Preventive Medicine and Public Health Sector, stressed the importance of fully adhering to technical standards and procedures governing the vaccination process and intensifying monitoring and evaluation throughout all stages of the campaign. He emphasized the importance of complying with vaccination safety requirements and following approved protocols to ensure children’s safety and strengthen citizens’ confidence in national health services and programs. He also noted that the preparations aim to identify areas and groups that may face difficulties accessing services and take immediate corrective measures to ensure that all targeted children receive the vaccine.

Dr. Hisham Magdy, Head of the Central Administration for Public Health, emphasized the importance of unifying the efforts of central and local work teams to reach all children in the target age group, from nine months to 10 years old. Vaccination will be available to both Egyptian and non-Egyptian children without any discrimination based on nationality, ensuring comprehensive protection and reducing the chances of infection spreading within the community.

This campaign builds on the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to protect children’s health and safety and support Egypt’s goals of maintaining its freedom from measles and rubella. These efforts include ensuring equitable access to vaccination services, improving the efficiency of surveillance and monitoring systems, and strengthening early responses to any potential health risks.
