The Supreme Council for Media Regulation, headed by Engineer Khaled Abdel Aziz, approved the recommendations of the Committee for Regulating Sports Media Performance, chaired by Counselor Abdel Salam El-Naggar, a council member and Vice President of the State Council, regarding new regulations for sports media. These regulations will take effect on August 8, 2026, and will remain in force until further notice.
First: Sports programs will be allowed to extend their live broadcasts until 1:00 a.m. to accommodate the schedules of the new sports season matches.
Second: Match refereeing performance analysis will be permitted in sports programs under the following regulations:
1- It will be allowed once a week through the media outlet, either as a segment or a full program, with a maximum duration of 90 minutes.
2- The analyst must be a former international referee and must not be a current member of the Main Referees Committee appointed by the Egyptian Football Association’s Board of Directors.
3- The analysis must be limited to purely technical aspects, based on the relevant rules of the game related to the refereeing decision, without comparing it to previous cases.
4- The discussion must be conducted objectively, completely free from any accusations regarding integrity or questioning of intentions. Any statements implying bias, deliberate negligence, or similar claims are prohibited.
The council stressed the need to continue adhering to the remaining regulations included in Council Decision No. 28 of 2024 and assigned the General Monitoring Department to follow up on the commitment of all media outlets to the regulations and standards issued by the council.
