The Ministry of Higher Education announced the minimum admission scores for the first phase of university admissions for students who passed the new General Secondary Education system through the centralized admissions process. The minimum scores for the first phase are as follows: Science: 91.25%, Mathematics: 86.09%, Arts: 71.56%.
The first phase of admissions will be conducted electronically from Wednesday, August 5, through Sunday, August 9, 2026.
The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research also announced that it has completed all preparations for the coordination of admissions to public universities and institutes for the 2026/2027 academic year. This comes in light of the continuous expansion of the higher education system through the establishment of new universities, colleges, and academic programs, as well as the development of human resources, educational and research capabilities, and infrastructure. These efforts enhance the capacity of universities and institutes to accommodate the number of students applying through the centralized admissions process in accordance with approved enrollment capacities, while maintaining the quality of education and the efficiency of student services. This reflects the state's philosophy of making high-quality university education a means of building qualified human capital equipped with the skills and competencies needed to lead a knowledge- and innovation-based economy, rather than merely increasing student enrollment.
These efforts also implement the strategic vision of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to develop the higher education system and invest in people as the cornerstone of building the New Republic by preparing qualified graduates who possess the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to support national development plans and strengthen the country's competitiveness.
In line with this vision, the Higher Committee for the Development of Academic Programs and Their Alignment with Labor Market Indicators was established to develop a comprehensive strategy for improving academic programs and admissions policies. Its work is based on scientific studies that anticipate future workforce needs while keeping pace with economic and technological changes and national development priorities.
Through specialized working groups and in cooperation with ministries, relevant authorities, and representatives from industry and business, the committee conducted comprehensive scientific studies and analyses of employment indicators, current and future labor market needs, required skills and competencies, and promising fields of study. It also drew on international best practices. The committee's initial report served as a scientific reference for establishing admission indicators across different university sectors, ensuring that higher education outcomes are aligned with national development needs and labor market requirements while preserving the quality of education.
The findings of these studies are reflected in this year's admissions policies through expanding enrollment in colleges and academic programs experiencing growing demand for graduates, maintaining admission levels in disciplines where labor market demand remains stable, and expanding interdisciplinary, academic, and modern specialized programs that strengthen multidisciplinary skills and competencies, keep pace with scientific and technological developments, and enhance graduates' competitiveness locally, regionally, and internationally, thereby supporting the objectives of Egypt Vision 2030.
The ministry emphasized that all decisions regarding the development of the admissions system and the expansion of educational access are closely linked to the readiness of universities and colleges in terms of faculty members, teaching assistants, academic resources, infrastructure, laboratories, university hospitals, and educational facilities. This ensures that the quality of education remains the guiding principle behind all development decisions.
This is consistent with the progress witnessed by Egypt's higher education system in recent years, including the establishment of new universities, the expansion of colleges and academic programs, and increased enrollment capacity at higher education institutions. These developments enable the system to accommodate the steady increase in student numbers while maintaining the efficiency of educational services and the quality of educational outcomes, reaffirming the state's commitment to balancing access with quality.
The ministry also confirmed that the electronic university admissions office takes into account the graduation of General Secondary Education students under both the new and old educational systems when determining minimum admission scores, ensuring fairness and equal opportunities for all students in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Council of Universities.
Accordingly, the ministry announced the launch of the first phase of university and institute admissions for the 2026/2027 academic year through the official online admissions website. Applications will be accepted from Wednesday, August 5, 2026, until Sunday, August 9, 2026, in accordance with the announced minimum admission scores and the number of eligible students.
