Egypt’s Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade is expanding its use of digital monitoring tools to strengthen governance and transparency, particularly ahead of the launch of its price reduction initiative. Key tools include the “Price Radar,” which tracks price movements, and the “Inspector Card,” designed to document and govern inspection activities and regulatory visits.
The ministry is also continuing the geographic mapping of retail outlets using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), helping authorities monitor changes, direct inspection campaigns, and make decisions on expanding outlets based on the needs of different areas.
Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, held a meeting on Wednesday to review preparations for launching the price reduction initiative, with its first phase scheduled to begin today, Thursday, September 10, through participating outlets nationwide.
The minister explained that the initiative will initially offer 12 essential commodities at reduced prices, with plans to gradually add 18 more commodities during September, bringing the total number of products covered by the initiative to 30.
The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade said the price reduction initiative will continue for six months, from September 2026 through March 2027, including the holy month of Ramadan. The initiative is intended to provide a sustained and extended effort to increase the supply of goods, improve availability, and contribute to market and price stability.
