The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has announced a collaboration with global technology company Google to provide eligible university students in Egypt, aged over 18, with free access to the benefits of Google Gemini through the Google AI Plus plan for one full year, enabling them to use artificial intelligence tools to enhance their creativity and support their educational journey through 2027.
This initiative is part of the “One Million Egyptian Students Create with Gemini” initiative, launched by Google in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. Its goal is to empower university students to benefit from artificial intelligence technologies in an informed and responsible manner. The initiative includes a series of training programs specifically designed for university students throughout the year, helping expand access and reach the largest possible number of students across universities.
This initiative reflects a strategic partnership between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Google, supporting the Ministry’s efforts to promote AI awareness and develop digital skills among Egyptian youth. It also aims to make the latest AI tools and technologies widely accessible to university students, with an emphasis on using these technologies consciously and responsibly and applying them to education, research, and innovation. This will contribute to preparing a generation of Egyptian youth capable of taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the digital economy and future technologies.
Students enrolled in universities across Egypt can register until December 31 of the current year to receive a free one-year subscription, which begins on the date of registration. The annual subscription to the Google AI Plus plan is valued at approximately EGP 3,000, but it is available completely free of charge to students who meet the eligibility requirements.
The Google AI Plus plan provides students with a range of benefits through the Google Gemini application and the Gemini Notebook tool, enabling them to summarize lecture notes and textbooks and use these summaries to prepare for examinations.
These benefits include access to the Gemini application, powered by an upgraded model designed to understand complex questions, as well as various accompanying features, including the Personalized Intelligence feature. The plan also includes the Omni model, available within Gemini for generating videos up to 10 seconds long, and the Nano Banana model for generating images in various formats and sizes.
The Gemini Notebook tool, powered by Gemini, also offers a range of capabilities to help students prepare research papers, listen to interactive audio summaries, and summarize books of up to 200 pages. The tool was previously known as NotebookLM. The plan also includes 200 GB of cloud storage, providing suitable space for summaries and educational materials.
As part of its commitment to supporting the academic journeys of male and female students in Egypt, Google also offers other plans that provide access to AI features at different levels. These include discounts of up to 75% on the Google AI Pro plan, which offers access to Google models designed for application and website developers, as well as greater storage capacity for students interested in programming and design.
Throughout this year, students can also benefit from a 70% discount on a special plan that combines a Google AI Pro subscription with YouTube Premium, allowing them to watch videos on the platform without advertisements.
Google previously offered a similar deal to students in Egypt last year. The offer attracted significant interest, contributing to the expansion of the new offer to include a larger number of Arab countries, including Algeria, Morocco, Iraq, and Jordan, as well as other countries.
It is worth noting that the Google Gemini application is available in Arabic on both Android and iOS and has surpassed one billion monthly active users worldwide.
