Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber said there is ongoing daily monitoring of waste management companies in the capital, as well as the efforts of the Cairo Cleaning and Beautification Authority to remove waste and garbage and to improve the cleanliness of main and side streets and squares in a way that ensures citizen satisfaction. He added that the Cleanliness portfolio is at the forefront of the Cairo governorate's priorities due to its significant impact on public health and the environment.
Governor Saber added that the waste management system relies on the integration of roles between the companies, the Cleaning and Beautification Authority, and Supervisory authorities. He also urged all officials and street cleaners to ensure on‑the‑ground presence and to respond quickly to reports and citizens’ complaints.
Saber further stated that Cairo’s waste management system draws attention from political leadership and is under close watch by the prime minister. He added that the state has provided all necessary facilities to ensure the success of the system with the aim of achieving citizen satisfaction.
This came during a meeting held by the governor with officials of the waste management companies to review their efforts in cleaning and collecting waste from residential and commercial units. It also addressed how companies handle daily generated waste, the distribution plan of street cleaners, and the adequacy of the number of collection and cleaning workers assigned to both main and side streets, as well as the number of vehicles and equipment used for collection and cleaning.
The meeting also discussed the on‑ground operational performance, the challenges they face, and ways to overcome them to deliver the best service to citizens.
During the meeting, the governor instructed the monitoring and supervisory departments, along with on‑site follow‑up teams, to conduct regular assessments of street and road conditions and to monitor the companies’ commitment to waste collection, ensuring that no accumulation is allowed. He added that periodic evaluations of the companies’ performance will be carried out to ensure full compliance and effective performance of their duties.
Saber also urged consistent cooperation and coordination among all entities responsible for the waste management system, working hand in hand. He added that the purpose of monitoring is to address problems and improve the quality of service delivered to
citizens.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Governors Eng. Mona El-Batrawi and Dr. Ahmad Anwar El-Adl, together with the head of Cairo’s Cleaning, Beautification, and Lighting Authority. Also present were representatives from EnviroMaster, which manages the eastern zone, and Ertaqa, which oversees waste management in the western zone, in addition to several Cairo Governorate officials and environmental supervision authorities.
