Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber attended the annual conference of the Faculty of Medicine, Kasr Al-Ainy, Cairo University for 2026. The conference is being held this year under the theme “Emergency and Disaster Medicine in a Changing World.” The conference was attended by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population; Dr. Ahmed Al-Ansari, Governor of Giza; and Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadeq, President of Cairo University. Also in attendance were Dr. Hossam Salah Murad, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Cairo University Hospitals and Chair of the Conference, as well as Dr. Sherif Basha Seif, Chairman of the Health Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives, alongside several medicine professors, physicians, researchers, and specialists.
During his speech at the conference, Governor Saber expressed his happiness at participating in this annual event. He added that holding the event at the Faculty of Medicine, Qasr Al-Ainy, an ancient academic edifice, discusses a matter fundamental to the healthcare system: its ability to respond rapidly and effectively to crises and emergencies. He also emphasized the significance of the conference, as it brings together a host of medical professionals, specialists, and researchers.
Moreover, Saber stated the conference aligns with the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. It reflects the president’s ongoing commitment to advancing the healthcare system, emergency medical services, and strengthening emergency and disaster management. He added that these efforts aim to ensure rapid response, protect citizens’ lives, and deliver medical care in accordance with the highest standards.
Saber added that emergency units represent the true test of any healthcare system’s readiness. He also said that confronting disasters goes beyond solely medical resources; it demands advance planning, consistent training, integrated coordination among all relevant entities, and the capacity for rapid decision-making amid the most complex and rapidly evolving circumstances.
Saber further said that Cairo, with its dense population and significant cultural position and its 24/7 vitality, recognizes the importance of integration between the executive bodies and the healthcare system, particularly in emergency units’ response and crisis management. He added that such coordination strengthens the governorate’s ability to protect citizens and efficiently handle diverse urgent situations.
Saber expresses his gratitude to the professors and scholars of the Qasr Al‑Aini Faculty of Medicine, as well as to all physicians, nursing staff, and emergency care specialists, for the dedication and responsibility they demonstrate during the most difficult moments. He also paid tribute to young physicians and researchers, who symbolize the aspiration for a more advanced and progressive healthcare system in the future.
Saber conveyed his trust that the conference will yield numerous insights and recommendations contributing to the advancement of emergency and disaster medicine while enhancing its capacity to address future needs. He also wished success for the conference and lasting progress and prosperity for Egypt under President Abdel Fattah El‑Sisi.
