Minister of Local Development and Environment Dr. Manal Awad, along with Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber, supervised the relocation of a giant tree in the Heliopolis district after it suddenly fell onto a neighboring residential building. The relocation process used the state’s latest equipment to relocate the tree to an adjacent location. The relocation took nearly six hours of uninterrupted effort. It began with preparing the new site for replanting, followed by lifting the tree from its original location, transporting it to the prepared site, and finally positioning the tree at the new site using advanced trees and palms transplant equipment.
Meanwhile, Minister Awad commended the efforts of the executive bodies of the Cairo Governorate and specialized technical teams for preserving the tree rather than cutting it down. She also hailed the successful replanting of the tree in another location. Awad also said that the relocation was carried out using modern and specialized equipment, facilitating the relocation through meticulous technical measures to protect the root system and preserve the tree’s structural integrity.
The minister also said that the ministry continues to support governorates in implementing the directives of the political leadership and the Prime Minister’s instructions to expand tree‑planting initiatives and increase green spaces. This includes preserving existing trees and upgrading open areas, median islands, traffic corridors, main roads, and the entrances to cities and villages, in line with the state’s strategy to improve the urban environment and enhance the aesthetic appearance of cities.
For his part, Governor Saber stated that the handling of the tree was carried out within the framework of Cairo Governorate’s strategy to implement the “Greening Cairo” presidential initiative, as well as the state’s efforts to preserve mature trees and green spaces in the capital.
Saber further said that, as soon as the tree, a Poinciana species, began to tilt, urgent measures were taken to secure the adjacent building and protect pedestrians, while ensuring the tree itself was preserved.
The governor added that specialists from the Cairo Cleaning and Beautification Authority prepared a new site adjacent to the location where the tree fell to relocate and replant it, using the most advanced specialized equipment available.
The governor followed the stages of lifting and transporting the tree, with the necessary technical measures taken to protect its roots and ensure its safety during the relocation process, as well as all required measures to secure workers and passers‑by until the tree was successfully replanted in its new location.
