The Supreme Council for Media Regulation, headed by Engineer Khaled Abdel Aziz, has completed the review and scrutiny of the first batch of “co-production” program contracts submitted by satellite channels, in light of monitoring the extent to which the channels and presenters of these programs comply with the rules, codes, and professional standards governing media work, as part of efforts to confront the phenomenon of “selling airtime”.
The Council is scheduled to issue today, a number of decisions regarding the status of a group of programs whose review has been completed, in light of the examination results.
The examination includes reviewing the content of those programs and the extent to which it is consistent with the controls and standards governing media work, in addition to assessing the extent to which their presenters meet the professional standards qualifying them to appear in the media, as obtaining a professional practice license or permission to appear is not in itself sufficient to undertake media work, but rather their appearance and professional performance on screen remain subject to continuous evaluation and monitoring by the Council, as part of the Council’s role in protecting the citizen’s right to enjoy free and impartial media and press, characterized by the highest levels of professionalism, committed to international quality standards, and consistent with Egyptian cultural identity.
The Council continues to complete the review and scrutiny of the remaining co-production programs successively, in preparation for issuing the necessary decisions regarding them immediately upon completion of their examination, and the Council confirms that it will take the necessary measures and decisions regarding any violations or observations identified during the examination and review process, in light of the provisions of Law No. 180 of 2018 and the rules, codes, and professional standards governing media work.
