Mr. Johar Nabil, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Dr. Ibrahim Saber Khalil, Governor of Cairo, attended the “Cairo: Cradle of Civilization” running marathon, organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports under the slogan “Egyptians’ Fitness,” as part of the National Fitness Initiative. The marathon brought together 7,000 male and female participants from various age groups.
The marathon started in front of the Manshaat Kobri area, passing through the Pottery area and the Fustat Hills, before reaching the finish line in front of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. The route combined sports activities with showcasing the capital’s cultural and historical landmarks.
The marathon concluded with the honoring of the winners who secured the top positions, amid broad participation and distinguished organization. The event reflected the success of the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ efforts to promote a culture of sports participation, expand community involvement, and establish the concept of sports as a lifestyle.
Mr. Johar Nabil, Minister of Youth and Sports, said that the “Cairo: Cradle of Civilization” Marathon is part of the Ministry’s vision to promote sports participation among all segments of society and transform sports into a daily lifestyle, contributing to building a healthy and active society. He noted that the National Fitness Initiative, “Egyptians’ Fitness,” continues to expand across various governorates, helping increase community participation in sports activities.
The Minister of Youth and Sports added that choosing a marathon route extending through the Fustat area to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization reflects the Ministry’s commitment to combining sports with the promotion of Egypt’s cultural and tourism destinations. He emphasized that organizing such events contributes to highlighting the country’s cultural identity, raising awareness of the importance of preserving heritage, and promoting positive competition and a spirit of participation among citizens.
The Minister of Youth and Sports praised the fruitful cooperation with the Cairo Governorate and all entities involved in organizing the event, which contributed to its successful and dignified execution and demonstrated the Egyptian state’s ability to organize major sporting events. He affirmed that the Ministry would continue implementing more sports initiatives and events targeting all age groups, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt’s Vision 2030.
For his part, Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo, emphasized that the marathon reflects the state’s commitment to expanding sports participation and making sports a way of life, while also leveraging sporting events to promote Cairo’s historical and tourist areas, further strengthening the city’s position as a destination that brings together civilization, heritage, and development.
The Governor of Cairo added that the participation of more than 7,000 competitors from various age groups reflects growing awareness of the importance of sports and its role in promoting public health, while also reinforcing positive values, a sense of belonging, and teamwork among members of society.
The Governor of Cairo noted that the Governorate, in coordination with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the relevant authorities, provided all necessary organizational, traffic, and medical arrangements, contributing to the safe and well-organized execution of the marathon, which received widespread praise from participants and attendees.
The Governor of Cairo affirmed that the Governorate is committed to supporting all sporting and community events that contribute to discovering talent and encouraging young people to actively participate in various activities, in line with the state’s vision of building a healthier and more vibrant society.
