The Ministry of Education and Technical Education has announced the university admission system for holders of the Egyptian Baccalaureate certificate. The ministry explained that the Egyptian Baccalaureate is Egypt's official national certificate for completing general secondary education (pre-university), issued by the Egyptian government, just like the General Secondary Education Certificate (Thanaweya Amma). As an officially recognized Egyptian qualification, it enables graduates to pursue higher education both in Egypt and abroad.
In addition, the ministry has signed a cooperation agreement with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization—one of the world's leading institutions in international secondary education—to establish a framework for reviewing curricula, implementing quality standards, and aligning the Egyptian Baccalaureate with international educational benchmarks.
The ministry also confirmed that the Egyptian Baccalaureate qualifies students for admission to all universities based on their overall scores. University admissions for Baccalaureate graduates will follow the same coordination system applied to Thanaweya Amma students, in coordination with the Supreme Council of Universities and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The proportion of university seats allocated to Egyptian Baccalaureate students will correspond to their share based on their overall scores.
As an example, the ministry explained that if a score of 90% qualifies students for admission to a particular university program, Egyptian Baccalaureate students achieving the equivalent overall score will be eligible under the same admission criteria, with no increase or decrease in the applicable percentage.
