Cairo Governor, Greek Ambassador discuss cultural cooperation

Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber received Mr. Nikolaos Papageorgiou, the Greek ambassador to Egypt in his office at the Cairo Governorate’s headquarters to discuss avenues of cooperation between Cairo and Athens in light of the longstanding historical and cultural ties between the Egyptian and Greek peoples.

During the meeting, Governor Saber said that Egyptian-Greek relations are more than diplomatic relations, enriched by centuries of cooperation. He added that Greeks living in Egypt were an integral part of forming modern Egyptian life, especially in Cairo and Alexandria. They also contributed to trade, industry, education, journalism, culture, and the arts.

Saber further said that the best way to honor this legacy is to transform it into new cooperation between Cairo and Athens, thereby strengthening relations between the two peoples and creating opportunities for partnership in the coming period.

Saber also emphasized the importance of transforming shared history into living cultural exchange through organizing regular events showcasing Greek artistic heritage at “Art Street” in Cairo.
