Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa directed to create a working group comprising the deans of the institutes affiliated with the Academy of Arts. The group will be tasked with preparing comprehensive proposals to improve performance within the institutes and setting out clear implementation frameworks. The working group creation aims to enhance the educational and academic process, maximize the use of available resources, develop the Academy’s self‑funding capacities. It will also broaden avenues for cooperation and the admission of students from fellow Arab countries. So, it will strengthen the Academy’s position and role at both the Arab and international levels.
The acting minister’s remarks came during a meeting with the deans of the academy’s institutes in Al‑Haram, attended by Dr. Nabila Hassan, president of the academy; Dr. El‑Sayed Kandil, president of Capital University; and Dr. Mohammad Lotfy, president of the British University. The meeting discussed the academic and educational system at the academy, assessed the needs of its institutes, and explored ways to modernize the educational process in line with contemporary requirements and the labor market in artistic and innovative fields.
Acting Minister Konsowa highlighted the importance of the Academy of Arts, given it is one of Egypt’s key instruments of soft power. It is also a distinguished academic and cultural institution that, over decades, has trained generations of artists and specialists in diverse artistic disciplines. The Academy’s alumni made a lasting influence on Egypt’s creative path and contributed to enriching artistic and cultural currents at the Arab and global levels.
The acting minister further said that the academy’s role is not limited to graduating expert artistic cadres but also building awareness and cultivating artistic taste while preserving Egypt’s cultural and artistic leadership. He added that it is necessary to develop the academy’s education and training system to keep pace with the rapid transformations in cultural and creative industries and to harness technological advancements across artistic disciplines.
During the meeting, Acting Minister Konsowa was briefed on the Academy's educational framework, specializations, and key challenges related to curricula, facilities, and the needs of students and faculty members.
A number of proposals and perspectives were also reviewed, aimed at improving academic performance, upgrading educational and training programs, and strengthening the practical aspect of education to better prepare graduates to compete and integrate into artistic and creative disciplines. The meeting also addressed shifts in the cultural and creative industries and how to respond to them.
Konsowa further directed that the specific requirements for completing the educational and training infrastructure at the institutes be identified—including machinery, equipment, and tools—and prioritized according to actual needs. These will be incorporated into the general budget to ensure the completion of infrastructure and facilities, enhance the efficiency of academy premises, and maximize their capacity. This will support the academy’s ability to deliver advanced educational and training programs that meet the evolving needs of artistic and creative sectors.
