The adoption of daylight saving time in Egypt came nearly seven years after its abolition. It was implemented on the last Friday of April 2023. According to Cabinet statements, daylight saving time involves setting the clock forward 60 minutes, while winter time is set back 60 minutes.
Friday was chosen to adjust both daylight saving and winter time, as Friday is an official holiday in most government sectors. This was chosen to avoid any time-related problems or errors, and to give citizens an opportunity to understand and implement the change, avoiding any disruption to government and institutional operations if the change occurs on a normal workday.
