15 October 2024
About

Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber conducted an inspection tour of The Fustat Pottery Village and the Traditional Crafts Complex in Old Cairo to follow up on the ongoing preparation ahead of receiving the delegations participating in the 12th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12), held from November 4 to 8.

During his tour, Saber pointed out the development works carried out in the pottery village included connecting all utilities (water, gas, electricity, and sewage) in addition to installing eco-friendly kilns as an alternative to traditional ones and installing self-ignition kiln burners in the rest of the workshops in the village.

Saber added that the village underwent several development works, including following up on the lighting system, increasing the efficiency of the buildings, and installing landscape and side shelves on the walls of each workshop to display the products aesthetically. Furthermore, a school has been established to teach pottery to preserve the profession.

Moreover, Saber said the pottery village and the crafts complex have been included on Cairo’s attractions map during the forum to promote awareness of handicrafts and the level of urban development in the surrounding area.

The governor was accompanied by Deputy Cairo Governor Ashraf Mansour and several officials of the Cairo governorate.
