6 August 2024
About

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy convened with representatives from META, the global technology giant, to discuss the progress of the Instagram Filters project.

This innovative initiative aims to enhance the visitor experience at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) in Fustat.

The project, slated for imminent launch, will utilize augmented reality technology to recreate the original appearances of select artefacts.

These artefacts, carefully chosen to represent various epochs of the ancient Egyptian civilization, will be digitally restored to their original states, allowing visitors to view them as they were thousands of years ago.

This experience will be accessible via specific smartphone applications during the visits.

Company officials presented a detailed overview of the completed work, highlighting the project's dual purpose: to educate and entertain.

The virtual reconstructions aim to deepen visitors' understanding of Egypt's rich history while enhancing their overall experience. This initiative is expected to boost cultural tourism and foster greater engagement on social media platforms.

The meeting also explored future collaborations between the ministry and META. Discussions included leveraging metaverse technology for digital tourism promotion and raising awareness among Egyptian youth about their cultural heritage.

META plans to launch specialized applications on social media, capitalizing on the platforms' capabilities for sharing photos, videos, and stories.
