Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber,
accompanied by Major- General Staff Dr. Khaled Fouda, the Advisor to the President for Local
Development and Chairman of the National Committee for the Protection and
Development of Historic Cairo, conducted an inspection tour to follow up on the
ongoing development efforts in the Khedivial Cairo area.
This tour aligns with political
leadership’s directives to swiftly revitalize the area while preserving and
restoring its vital role in showcasing its architectural and urban character.
The governor was
also accompanied by Deputy Cairo Governor Ibrahim Abdel Hadi; Dr. Maher Estino,
member of the Supreme Advisory Committee for Planning at the Cabinet; Dr. Abdel
Khaleq Ibrahim, First Assistant Minister of Housing; and several officials from
the Cairo governorate, the Ministry of Housing, and the Arab Contractors
Company.
During the tour,
Fouda emphasized the importance of expediting the completion of ongoing
development projects in alignment with the established deadlines.
In addition,
Governor Saber said the Cairo Khedivial project aims to achieve a significant
transformation in downtown Cairo by enhancing its visual appeal and
architectural character. This will be accomplished by preserving the facades of
its distinctive buildings, removing any distortions that have affected them,
and arranging shop signs in a manner that aligns with the overall character of
the area.
Moreover, the tour
included inspecting the ongoing renovation of Azbakia Garden, which is part of
the state's efforts to restore the unique archaeological features of Khedivial
Cairo, revitalize its spirit, reinstate its cultural significance, and enhance
its appeal to tourists.
The president's
advisor and the governor of Cairo also inspected the construction of kiosks
along Sour Al-Azbakia to relocate booksellers and redevelop the area into a
cultural tourism zone.
Furthermore, Fouda
and Saber inspected the ongoing renovation of the buildings along Talaat Harb
Street, which is part of the third phase of the Khedival Cairo development,
extending from Tahrir Square to Talaat Harb Square.
The tour also
included an inspection of the efforts to enhance the efficiency of the streets
in the Borsa area, designating them for pedestrian use.
Additionally, Saber
and Fouda inspected development work on Al-Sherifein Street and the surrounding
streets.
